Treatment Techniques

Our Philosophy

At Backcountry chiropractic, we understand that each patient is unique and deserves thorough evaluation and individualized attention in order to address their specific health issues and goals.  While Backcountry Chiropractic specializes in working with athletes, particularly cyclists, Dr. McDonald also has extensive experience working with children, teens, musicians, and women during their pregnancies.

During your initial consultation with Dr. McDonald, he will spend a significant amount of time with you better understanding your lifestyle and activities.  First appointments for most patients is a minimum of an hour, so that Dr. McDonald can best evaluate the impact stress, diet, and physical activity is having on your body and what type of treatment will best help you in the long term.

Helping You Achieve Overall Wellness

Due to his extensive background and training, Dr. McDonald doesn’t simply just treat a patient’s symptoms.  While adjustments are an integral part of chiropractic medicine, understanding a patient’s medical history, health risks, physical limitations, and overall health issues allow Dr. McDonald to approach the treatment process in a holistic manner.  Dr. McDonald will often consult and work with other medical professionals when needed to ensure a patient is getting the comprehensive care they need. For example, keeping the lines of communication with a cancer patient’s oncologist to ensure adjustments are appropriate during chemotherapy or working with an obstetrician to ensure a pregnant patient remains comfortable and healthy during a time when there is added stress and pressure on her body.

Nutritional Guidance

There is vast amount of information out there on “proper nutrition” and it can become overwhelming and confusing!  Should you be eating carbs?  What is a good fat vs. bad fat?  What is gluten – and is it really bad for you?  As both an athlete and a medical professional, Dr. McDonald understands that there is no one perfect diet that is suited for everyone.  Based on a patient’s goals – whether it be developing the endurance needed for distance racing, building greater muscle tone, or losing weight – Dr. McDonald will work with you to determine the best diet and nutritional practices to help you reach your fullest potential.
